Highland Synchronized Ice Skating Teams competed at Trophy D’Ecosse 9-11 Feb 2018 (which incorporates Skate Scotland Club International Competitions)

The club’s 4 synchronized skating teams competed in the above championships and 2 teams came away with medals.

After their bronze medal success at the British Championships in Nottingham last month, Northern Lights did one better competing in the Preliminary category with a fantastic score of 28.00 to finish 2nd out of 9 teams for a Silver medal and were highest placed Scottish team making them Scottish Champions.

Northern Lights also took home a bronze medal from the British Championships in Nottingham in last month.

The adult team, Highlanders, came away with an amazing PB result of 26.39 to finish in 3rd place in the Adult category, less than two points behind the winners, Bladerunners of Altrincham who scored 28.06.

The Moray Dolphins also had a good skate, improving on their performance at the British competition.

The youngest team, Highland Pups had a good skate and many of this team were skating in their first competition.

Some of the skaters are cross-overs i.e. some from Northern Lights also skate in Moray Dolphins and some of the Moray Dolphins skaters compete with the adult team, the Highlanders. Two routines to learn!

Amanda Clinton, the teams’ coach is delighted with the club’s achievements and results like these make all her hard work worthwhile. Amanda also travels all over as a Technical specialist judge at synchronized ice skating competitions.

Practice starts now all over again for next season’s competitions! New members always welcome!

Many thanks to all who came along to watch and vote for their favourite skating act at our annual ICE FACTOR show at Inverness Ice Centre on Friday 29th December.

Also a huge thank you for buying raffle tickets/tombola/squares on the night. The sum of £1,334.00 was raised and we're extremely grateful to all who contributed prizes for the raffle and tombola.

All proceeds for Highland Synchronized Ice Skating Teams competition costs at the British and Scottish championships in early 2018.

FASHION SHOW - Tuesday 3rd October 2017

A big thank you to all the models who took part in our fashion show fundraiser at M& Co on 3rd October. Some of the models were from our skating teams and some were friends and family. We raised £276 from ticket sales and £52 from Squares board.
Thank you also to Molly and her staff at M&Co in Dingwall for letting us use their store and for helping with the organising of the event.

TROPHY D’ECOSSE (incorporating Scottish Synchronized Skating Championships)
11th and 12th February 2017

Good luck to all our teams for this weekend at Trophy D'Ecosse in Dumfries.

Our three synchronized skating teams competed in the above championships at the weekend and did their coach, Amanda Clinton, and all families and friends very proud.

They have only had around 15 hours of on-ice skating practice since the Ice Rink re-opened in October last year and this has meant them having to do more “off-ice” practice and this itself is a challenge given the restricted space available at the ice rink.

The adult team, Highlanders, came away with an amazing result of 4th out of a category of 11 and were less than half a point from the 3rd placed team of Orion from Lee Valley. This will stand them in good stead for the Scottish Championships at the Trophy D’Ecosse in Dumfries next month. Highlander’s routine is choreographed to the musical Kinky Boots.

The Moray Dolphins also received a good 4th out of a category of 9 teams – very stiff competition in this category also. Their routine is based on the musical Annie.

The youngest team competing this year from our club is the Northern Lights with a routine based on a Red Hot Chilli Pipers medley. The team finished in 5th out of 13 teams.

Some of the skaters are cross-overs i.e. some from Northern Lights also skate in Moray Dolphins and some of the Dolphins team compete with the adult team, the Highlanders. Two routines to learn!

All three teams head for the Trophy D’Ecosse ISU & Club International (which incorporates the Scottish Synchronized Skating Championships) in Dumfries on 11th and 12th February to try to retain their Scottish Championship titles from last year.

Our next fundraising event is taking place at SoBar in Castle Street Inverness on Tuesday 8th November at 7pm for 7.30pm start. There will be a fashion show and then you will have the opportunity to try on some of the outfits and accessories and make some purchases!

The clothes and accessories will be 50% or more off and are all from ex high street fashion i.e. Next, New Look, Oasis, Top Shop, Wallis, M&S etc. A good opportunity to start your Christmas shopping and maybe find that special outfit for your Christmas party night!

Tickets are £8 each which includes entry to the fashion show and a glass of Prosecco on arrival. There will be a raffle on the night which may include a £50 voucher from Colours Fundraising if we sell enough tickets - for tickets please contact Alena on 07769 580 595.

All ticket proceeds go to Highland Synchronized Ice Skating Teams for their forthcoming competition and travel costs.

For tickets please contact Alena on 07769 580 595.

Trophy d'Ecosse, Dumfries 5th to 8th February 2015

All four teams had an amazing competition and with the added bonus of having the former World champion Canadian team, Nexxice (presently no 2 in the world synchro team) competing at the same competition. What an inspiration for all the teams.

Northern Lights skated in Basic Novice A and won Gold for their category and also Gold for being Scottish Champions.

Moray Dolphins competed in the Senior category and achieved their highest technical scores yet for their combined short and long programs to finish in 5th place.

And last but not least, our newest team in our club, the Highlanders, competed in the Adult category against 8 other teams and came home with a well deserved Silver medal with a personal best score, and a Gold for Scottish champions.

All in all a very enjoyable weekend was had by all the skaters and all the parents! And a very satisfying time for Amanda, our Coach.
Well done again everyone.

NEWS from the British Synchronized Skating Championships - 17th & 18th January 2015

Well done to all our teams for this weekend - all 4 teams won a medal - fantastic achievements.

Gold - Northern Lights - Basic Novice A category
Silver - Highland Pups - Juvenile category
Bronze - Moray Dolphins - Senior category
Bronze - Highlanders - Adult category

Good luck to all four teams who travel to the British Synchronized Skating Championships this weekend at the National Ice Centre, Nottingham.

Our annual ICE FACTOR show took place on Saturday 27th December. All participants put on a fantastic show with a huge variety of different acts. The winners and runners up from each category will appear in Club Fundraising soon. Thank you also to Amanda and Caroline for their time with coaching and help with the various acts.

The fantastic sum of £1,106.25 was raised from entry tickets and raffle/tombola - a huge thank you to everyone who came along to see the show, to sponsors for their raffle donations, the Committee members and parents, and to all at Inverness Ice Rink.

Congratulations to Northern Lights for their Gold medal in the Basic Novice category at The Winter Cup in Belgium. Also to the Moray Dolphins for getting a Silver medal in the Senior category - well done everyone!

Fantastic results for Highland Synchronized Ice Skating Teams.

TROPHY D'ECOSSE - Scottish Synchronized Skating Championships 13th - 16th March 2014

Moray Dolphins - Senior category - Silver medal
Northern Lights - Basic Novice B category - Gold medal - Scottish Champions
Moray Seal Pups - Juvenile category - 6th overall but received a personal best score
Highlanders - Adults category - only their second championships and just missed out on a Bronze medal with a 4th place

Well done to all the teams - great achievements.

Thanks to Amanda for her superb coaching, to all the parents/supporters who help the club with fundraising and support the teams at competitions, and to the various sponsors/organisations for their donations. (See Club Fundraising and Sponsors for more details).

SHEFFIELD - British Synchronized Skating Championships - 18th and 19th January 2014.

All four Highland teams took part in the Championship and did the Club proud again. Moray Dolphins came away with a Bronze medal in the Senior category (short and long programmes over the two days) and are looking forward to the Scottish Championships in March.

The newly formed adult team, The Highlanders, were competing for the first time in Sheffield and did extremely well by finishing 5th overall, out of 12 teams in their catetory. Roll on Dumfries!

Northern Lights were in the Basic Novice B category for the championship and were the only team entered so came away with a Gold medal. Maybe they will get a chance to compete against another team at the Scottish Championships in Dumfries in March.

And last but not least our youngest team, the Moray Seal Pups, also had fierce competition in the Juvenile category and finished 5th overall. Well done for a good skate.

Trophy D'Ecosse 13th - 16th March - report coming soon.

ICE FACTOR 2013 took place on Saturday 28th December 2013. Thanks to all who supported the Club and for all donations of raffle prizes (see list of winners in Club Fundraising).

The Moray Dolphins recently attended a competition in Belgium, the Winter Cup, which was their first competition as a senior team. The Winter Cup was an ISU International event and they were competing against teams from Germany, Belgium and Great Britain. They came away with a total score of 61.97 which put them in 5th place.

The trip was a great experience for the team and they did themselves proud. They've come away with lots of useful feedback on the score sheet and are really excited for the British and aiming to improve on their score by a good few points!

Congratulations to Northern Lights for achieving a Gold medal at the London Open International at the Lee Valley Ice Centre.

Well done from everyone at the Club to Caroline Allan (Moray Dolphins) for passing her NISA Level 2 Coaching exam at Lee Valley.

The Highland Synchronized Ice Skating Teams are coached by Amanda Clinton and meet for training/practice throughout the year with the aim of entering competitions. In 2012-13 there were just short of 50 skaters across four teams Moray Dolphins, Aurora, Northern Lights and Moray Seal Pups.

In 2013 all the teams competed in the Trophy d’Ecosse in Dumfries in March and returned with a clutch of medals. The Moray Dolphins took the Gold in at international level their category and retained their Scottish championship title. The Northern Lights took silver in their category at international level and became Scottish champions in the Intermediate 1 category. The Seal Pups took silver in their category at international level and became Scottish Champions. Aurora missed out on bronze by a small margin. Additionally, in October 2012, Moray Dolphins won Gold at the club open at Lee Valley and Northern Lights won Silver. Moray Dolphins also competed in the Trophée des Hauts de France in February 2012– the first time a team has travelled overseas. Moray Dolphins are also former British Champions (2010).
